After getting a copy of the CentOS 6 or Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6, the steps below describes how to install it from scratch.
Boot1. Boot your computer from the CentOS 6 DVD and press Enter on theCentOS 6 boot up screen.
CD Check2. Choose Skip in the Disc Found window. This will skip the media test.
Welcome3. Click Next in the welcome window.
Language Selection4. Choose a language and click Next.
Keyboard Configuration5. Choose a keyboard for the system and click Next.
Select Device Type6. Select the installation device type and click Next.
Hostname7. Specify the hostname and click Configure Network.
Network Connections8. Select your network device and click Edit.
Edit System eth09. Check Connect automatically and click the IPv4 Settings tab.
Edit System eth010. Setup your network configuration and click Apply. Click Close in theNetwork Configurations window.
Timezone11. Select your timezone and click Next.
Root Password12. Specify a strong password for the root account and click Next.
Type of Installation13. Click Next in the type of installation window.
Select Software Set14. Select Minimal Desktop and select Customize now and click Next.
Select Custom Software
15. Select the following packages.
  • Legacy UNIX compatibilityLegacy UNIX compatibility in Base Systems. After checking this package, click Optional packages and checktelnet.
  • E-mail serverE-mail server in Servers
  • Web serverWeb server in Web Services
  • Graphical Administration ToolsGraphical Administration Tools in Desktops
Click Next when you’re done.
Installing16. The installation will now begin.
Congratulations17. Congratulations, the installation is complete. Remove the DVD and click Reboot to proceed to configuration.
