BLEAK CHOICE

I was looking into my potential future rig, but the first component to start is the CPU, for it shall determined your Motherboard and so on forth.

Competitively, by looking at the price of RM 600-700 range of products, i5-3570k seems to be the only worthy competitor. At this point any enthusiast would defer AMD and get Intel instead because of positive reviews and benchmarking performed from various sources (eg. Anandtech, Toms Hardware and Lowyat) Which leaves the question “What good is AMD FX 8350 if it’s outwitted by it’s rival?”

So I did my research, but it didn’t take me long enough to lean on intel i5 sides due to the fanboys of intel giving biased reviews and opinions. Then I stumbled on this video:

By Tech Sydicate

To sum to what video has to say, FX-8350 does stand out in gaming, although it doesn’t compete well enough on popular games titles, it gets the job done-pretty well.

BUT WAIT

Almost all the reviews, opinions and benchmark has been about gaming. This is all subject to argument when you have a decent card like a AMD 7970 or a GTX 690, because CPU isn’t the most dominant part (it’s slightly dominant, but not entirely) of gaming. Another argument for thought is that Games today doesn’t use multi-core effectively or don’t even use it all (The only game I know that use multi-cores is Battlefield 3) so what’s the point of more cores? Then what good use is AMD FX-8350?

IT’S CONTENT CREATION

So I lookup to Toms Hardware for benchmarking results, and this is where AMD FX-8350 excels at, it’s true calling and where it will serve it’s potential.

1. Video Encoding and Conversion

2. File Compression (Unzipping and Zipping)

3. 3D Modelling and Rendering

4. Image, Video and Sound Editing

5. Programming (Compiling…)

That’s all? Nope, it’s a huge deal when it comes to multimedia editing, it saves you TIME by producing results and as well as manipulating it. Especially when rendering videos, it’s a pain to wait 30 minutes for a 3 minute file.

So my conclusion to this post is that, if you’re a gaming enthusiast with deep pockets or probably someone who’s just looking for high quality product, then look no further, Intel is for you. If you’re looking for best bang for buck, AMD FX-8350 is for you.

It’s also for Gamers/Designers or whoever is looking a cross trade between satisfaction value over price, it does gives you the assurance that it will handle future application that are multi-threaded. Nonetheless, all alike, it' comes down to your budget, if you can spare the extra RM 100, yes i5 3570 is a great choice, low on budget, AMD FX 8350.

Now the choice is yours.
